Last Freehand Post
This week was the last week our group worked on our Freehand design of our golden Ratio. By the end of the lesson we have successfully transferred our design into Design Tools 2D design. The end result looked like my last picture post.

Final Olympic Project Reflection
We have finished our presentation to the class in a PowerPoint presentation. We did our presentation to the best of our ability though I think we might have been able to do better. Maybe next time we could choose a different topic or presentation type. Instead most people did a PowerPoint and about half of people did it on Steroids. Next time we should think "outside the square".

Reflection 2
So far we have reached all our milestones and we believe we're finished. But, we will continue to make it better by adding extra bits to make our presentation perfect. So far we have had no big argumentsabout anything and we seem to be working well together. I have also been using
each member of our group in the areas that they are good at.

Olympic Reflection
I independently set a series of milestones incorporating personal and group goals, and monitor and evaluate the achievement of these. The goal I have set independently is to complete the project with full marks and on time. Our group goal is pretty much the same thing except that we aim to complete our research by Thursday morning and our presentation by Friday 4Th period.
I try and usually succeed at maintaining my quality of work to an excellence standard, I value my work and always seek to improve it in some way. I hope this shows.
I always listen to my groups opinions and participate and respond appropriately.
I understand that I need to contribute to my group and that drawing upon the use of each members expertise is essential, which I do.

Should the 2008 Olympics have been held in China?
I believe that Olympics should have been held in China because politics has no place in sport.
The Olympics were allowed to continue in the 1936 Olympics even with all of the racism against Jews in the Berlin games. Besides, some of the links between things like Dafur and the Olympics are pretty weak. It isn't so much of an honour than it is a burden to the Chinese. 36 BILLION dollars went into the Chinese Olympics, if it was boycotted then would all of that money be a waste? I think so. But the statement I want to make clear is that POLITICS HAVE NO PLACE IN SPORT!

Sir Ernest Rutherford
Sir Ernest Rutherford is my role-model because I believe that he contributed the most to the world with his Orbital theory of the atom. He did this by using the gold foil experiment. This earned him the Nobel Chemistry award for 1908. I hope to be as successful as him in my life by contributing lots to the world.

Stage 3 Reflection
I copied and pasted my Geometers Sketchpad design into Macromedia FreeHand. I then started to erase parts of the overall design that were not mine. Once i had my part of the design cut out i had a discussion with my group and figured that the joining part between our two assigned shapes would be too hard. So we deleted it. We now should all have our pieces into freehand.

Stage 2 of Shape Work
With the instructions from Cole i constructed my shape in Geometers Sketchpad.
From left to right its 10cm across and from up to down its 16.6cm. Then 10cm up from the bottom a line splits across it. Once you have squared the bottom the top can be easily be repeated with this squaring technique. Its not a perfect representation of this but its the best Cole could get. The shape includes rotation and enlargement used together at the same time.
I have included how Christian and mines pieces fit together. In the end we aim for it to be about an inch thick and could be used like a puzzle.

Stage 1
I had originally had a totally different design for our group that i had made up when i was sick. But, after i had had a discussion with my group we changed our design to the Golden Ratio.
The Golden Ratio is where a rectangle spirals in on itself. So we started to design it.

Dr Fu Manchu
Dr Fu Manchu is a villain in the comics "Master of Kung-Fu". He is the father of the hero Shang Chi and aspires to rule the world. As the series goes on his image loses its nobler qualities and by the end of the series he stoops as low as to steal some of his sons blood to give him immortality.
His nemisis is Dr Denis Nayland Smith.

Diary entree #5
This week we continued with our new unit turning to the aspect of translation.
This investigation was big and i had to post two pictures of it on the blog.
Translation is harder than reflection and rotation but in the end i got the hang of it.
I learnt what something like (6,4) means.
We also took a little look at enlargement at the end of the week.

Diary entree #4
This week we changed topics and are doing a different part of moodle as our investigations.
This new part we are doing deals reflection and rotation. The two investigations I've done this week are the reflection one and the rotation one.

What culutral ties do Maori have with whales?
The Maori have always been in awe of whales. Popping up in lots of their legends, they were considered "the people of the sea". There are also two main myths about them. The first is of a beached whale, the Maori then come to take what they could from it when it turned into the war god Atua and cursed them. The second is of Tinirau and his pet whale. The whale gets killed by a man and he seeks revenge. According to myth, whales are related to the ocean god, Tangaroa. Because of this, they were thought of as supernatural and the Guardians of the ocean, saving sailors from death. Before the Europeans came the Maori never hunted whales , though if they encountered them beached they would claim that its a gift from the gods.
Why is Whaling a Problem?
Whaling is a problem because it's destroying many of the majestic species in our planet. The hunting of whales has led some species to the brink of extinction. Due to the killing of many whale's the rest have now gained protection from the government, but studies of Japanese markets show that some of the legal whale meat is in fact rare blue whale. It is also pointless to hunt whales as there are other products like plastic that replaces the whale bone. For example, whale oil can be replaced with beeswax. Of the once abundant Right-whales 295 remain and of the 5000 Beluga, there are now 500. But prehaps the rarest is the blue whale with fewer than 100 remaining. Humans are also depleting oceans of krill, which are the whales main source of food. If we do not stop this now, will our next genaration live to see whales?

Diary entree #3
This one lesson we've had so far i did the Angles of a polygon hotpotatos quiz and started the angles with the circle activity.
My Holiday
At the end of Term Two we had a holiday (yay)
For the first couple of day we stayed in Wellington and blobbed out at home. Next we headed to our holiday house in Acacia Bay (Which is inTaupo). We arrived there on Wednesday of the first week and were by ourselves until Saturday. While we waited we went to the hot pools and played heaps of Ping-Pong. Then on Saturday my Auntie arRived from Hawkes Bay without my Uncle, when i asked where he was she say she stayed at their vineyard while a contractor came. It was fun when she was here as we played lots of 500 (a card game). Then, on Monday she left. For another few days we had to entertain ourselves then out friends came on Wednesday. We went skiing!!!!!!!!!!
For two days we were skiing on Whakapapa and Turoa with our friends. Me and my friend were the only ones to ski though, the others went tobogganing. Then on friday they left and we also left to go to my Grand-parents house in Wakatane. On a morning there i found out that my Auntie and Uncle split apart (probably the reason that my uncle didnt come). We drifted back home on Sunday.....

Diary entree #2
This week I've gotten up to the Exterior angle of a Polygon task.
This task involves making and saving quite a few shapes under the task.
I was told to do only 2 of the shapes but I found that I couldn't do the HotPotatos Quiz without doing many of the shapes it told us to do.
I attempted to do the quiz but found i couldn't (i also didn't have enough time to finish it)
So i went back to the tasks so i could learn more.
I have learnt that the exterior angles of all the shapes i have done equals 360 degrees.

Diary Entry of Geometry Unit so far
So far this geometry unit we have been going onto Moodle and completing the tasks that are posted there. We are using Geometer's Sketchpad to complete these tasks. After I have completed the task there is a Hot Potato's Quiz corosponding to the task.
The tasks I have done so far are:
Adjacent Angles <-Done HP Quiz
Angle Sum of a Triangle investigation <-Done HP Quiz
Angles are Parallel Lines <-Done HP Quiz
Exterior angle of a Triangle <-Done HP quiz
Interior/Exterior Angles of a Quadrilateral <-Need to do HP Quiz
I find these tasks very informative and the Hot Potato's Quizes challenging, I like to have a challenge like the quizes are giving me. I sometimes find the quizes hard but i get around the problems in the end. I have learnt a lot about angles of shapes. Such as the interior angles of a triangle equals 180 degrees. Also I know that the angles on a line always equal 180 degrees as well.

Brief
Using Geometry Sketchpad we will combine as a class and create shapes for a structure that Terry Will cut out. We will then put it together as a class and become the masters of Kung fu.
